British music icon and legend Elton John recently announced his upcoming new album during a special event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Celebrating the induction of long-time friend and songwriting partner Bernie Taupin into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, John revealed the surprise announcement bound to “surprise the heck out of you.”
While the artist has evaded revealing any specific details on the album, the release would mark an excellent addition to John’s collaboration with Taupin of over 50 years. Describing the forthcoming album, John teases new music brimming with youth and validity that is sure to capture the hearts of new and older fans alike.
Elton John’s musical legacy
The upcoming album would be the singer-songwriter’s 32nd studio album following “Regimental Sgt. Zippo” in 2021. The album was referred to as “the debut album that never was,” as it was recorded during the late 1960s. At the time, “Empty Sky” was decided as John’s debut album, resulting in the indefinite shelving of “Regimental Sgt. Zippo.” Initially issued in mono on vinyl, the album was later re-released in stereo vinyl and CD formats in July 2022.
Earlier this year in June, John announced and performed his final UK stage, headlining the Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, England. John announced giving up touring for good. Dubbed his final concert, John described the night as “very special and emotional” to the crowd. The singer performed his biggest hits, including “Candle in the Wind,” “Crocodile Rock,” and an intense “I’m Still Standing.” John also dedicated “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” to friend, inspiration, and fellow artist George Michael.
Still, John had long prepared fans for his retirement from touring, announcing it in as early as 2018 during an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper. The Grammy-winning artist attributed his retirement from life on the road to his decision to focus on his family. The “Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour” began in 2018, with its final show originally slated for 2021. This was, of course, postponed due to the pandemic. Five years after the somber announcement, John performed his final stage as a touring artist in Stockholm, Sweden.
Despite the sad news of John’s farewell tour, however, husband David Furnish revealed ahead of the concert that the musician would not stop making music. Of course, John’s recent announcement of the upcoming album is more confirmation of this good news.
Icon of music and style
Previously, alongside promotions for his collaborative album “The Lockdown Sessions” in 2021, Elton John announced his longtime passion project eyewear line, aptly named Elton John Eyewear. The singer’s iconic style inspired each product in the eyewear line through the years and eras of his music career.
Of course, Elton is well known for his tendencies for stylish sunglasses on and off the stage. Among wacky-shaped, bold-colored frames and lenses, the musician’s love for flamboyant eyewear is reminiscent of many designer glasses sporting huge, wide lens shapes, the likes of which we can see on Versace or Gucci sunglasses.
Fun fact: in Elton John’s early years as a musician, he was fascinated by American singer-songwriter Buddy Holly and his classic horn-rimmed frames. It’s only fitting that, many years later, Elton John trailblazes across stages in
Europe and the US, sporting his outlandish eyewear designs with style and pride, creating his own stylish legacy.
We also shouldn’t neglect to mention this website’s heartfelt radio shoutout from Sir Elton John himself back in 2016.
