Current Epic Records CEO L.A. Reid knows a thing or two about discovering artists and what constitutes a hit.

It came from all his years of experience running LaFace Records with Babyface, taking over for Clive Davis at Arista and then making his mark on Island Def Jam. He worked his magic with such artists as TLC, Usher and OutKast and orchestrated comebacks for Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez.

He details his hits (and misses) in his new memoir, “Sing to Me: My Story of Making Music, Finding Magic, and Searching for Who’s Next,” the week’s top music book release.

Among the revelations: Though his ex-wife Pebbles accused him of sleeping with TLC’s Chilli, Reid denies it, but he agrees TLC broke up his marriage. After they became hugely successful, TLC fired Pebbles as their manager. Reid felt it was necessary in order to protect his label.
