“WKRP in Cincinnati” premiered on CBS and would run for four seasons. The series, created by Hugh Wilson, was based on his experiences working in advertising sales at a Top 40 station in Atlanta. A struggling WKRP hires a new program director, who’s given the task of switching the station from easy listening to rock ‘n’ roll. To boost ratings, he hires a pair of unconventional DJs, Venus Flytrap and Dr. Johnny Fever. Throughout its run, the show played popular songs of the era. The series nabbed 10 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series.
