New Songs: Kendrick Lamar, Meghan Trainor, etc.
Remember when … singers, musicians or groups would finish an album, they would hand it over to the record company; their publicity and marketing departments would get to work building a campaign and sending out advance copies to the press; a single would be released ahead of the album; you might hear it for the first time on “American Top 40”; increased radio airplay would soon follow and build up anticipation for the album a few months in advance; by the time the album came out, a second single would be waiting in the wings; you would go to a record store on Tuesday to buy the newly released album or 45; leaks, what leaks?; the artist would go on “American Bandstand,” “Soul Train” or “Solid Gold” to promote the album; then they would go on tour, and you would buy a band T-shirt?
Remember those days? Well, they’re gone forever.
Thanks a lot, Napster.
