Jacqui Naylor “The Long Game” (producer: Art Khu; first single: “Fix You”; Hear here) » BUY NOW (Ruby Star)
This is my 11th album and definitely my favorite. On it, I got to play with my acoustic smashing technique, where I take pop standards and put them on craftily arranged jazz standards and vice versa,” Naylor tells P&P. “‘The Long Game’ includes classics from David Bowie, Peter Gabriel and Coldplay, which sit comfortably next to treatments of standards from Kurt Weill, Jimmy Van Heusen and Ray Henderson. Interwoven throughout are my own compositions, written with pianist, guitarist and arranger, Art Khu. The album was born from one of my philosophies on life; ‘Keep going, stay hopeful and enjoy your life. If you continue to make positive efforts for your life, happiness is sure to emerge. We have to play life for the long game, never give up, and win in life and in love.’ Little did I know how true this all rings today, during this global pandemic.
