Devon Allman (son of Gregg Allman, member of Royal Southern Brotherhood) | “Turquoise” (producer: Jim Gaines; Hear here; MP3) | (Ruf, Feb. 12, 2013) |
BTW: Allman has fronted the blues-rock band Honeytribe for about 10 years, but he now has two new priorities: playing in the supergroup Royal Southern Brotherhood and his debut solo album, “Turquoise.”
“This is my first chance to branch out and get more into storytelling,” he tells P&P. “It’s more about the songs, getting quality songs, and less on playing.”
He’s very happy with the results, especially after snaring Stevie Ray Vaughan’s producer, Jim Gaines, to oversee it.
“I begged him, ‘Please produce me,’ and finally he said yes,” Allman said. “Jim’s really good at finding your strengths and trimming the fat. It’s not micromanaging, like some producers might do. He just knows what works and what doesn’t. He’s like the cool football coach you want to play for.”
