Your Music Book Store (June 7 and Beyond)

1971 was (and still is) my favorite year for music, for so many reasons: from Carole King’s “Tapestry,” Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” The Who’s “Who’s Next” and “Led Zeppelin IV” to “Theme From Shaft,” Elton John, Carpenters, “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Not to mention that The Beatles were now on their own and each creating hits.

In his new book, “Never a Dull Moment: 1971 – The Year That Rock Exploded,” David Hepworth takes readers through rock’s coming-of-age year (the rock era had just turned 17, after all), weaving in stories of the artists and the songs and significant political, social and cultural events. He even provides a playlist of essential tracks for each month.

He makes a convincing argument that ’71 was rock’s finest year.
