"Dear Independence" (producer: Henry Hirsch) |
(TVT, Oct. 31, 2006) | BTW: "Our first album (1995's 'The Art of Rolling') was done in Germany in two weeks with random producers," Blue Van singer-guitarist Steffen Westmark tells P&P. "For this album, (producer) Henry (Hirsch) was real good at pushing us to the max and at the same time he's like this insane sound genius. Sometimes he had our drummer (Per M. Jorgenson) playing for like seven hours in a row just to get the right drum sound. We were all very nerdy about the sound."
What did the Danish garage rockers learn the second time around? "If you really want a great result, it takes time," Westmark said. "The first record was done so fast and it has more of that raggedy sound. When you want the best, you have to be very patient.
"We don't want to go in and rip off some Stones song and change a few chords around. We want to make our own kind of music within the style that we like. On this record, there's a more wider sound. There's soul influences going on, too."
