BTW: The New York area-born members of the Ramblers — Mike Seeger, John Cohen and Tom Paley, who was eventually replaced by Tracy Schwarz — were a trio whose reverence for and dedication to the geniuses of the American folk music tradition put them at the vanguard of the burgeoning folk revival movement in America during the late 1950s.

"This box set takes on additional significance with the recent passing of founding member Mike Seeger," Smithsonian Folkways says in a statement. "Through the New Lost City Ramblers and his own albums as both an artist and producer (75 in all for Smithsonian Folkways), Seeger's contribution to the performance and preservation of early American music helped a new generation fall in love with the songs of a time gone by. A six-time Grammy nominee and National Endowment for the Arts Award-winner, Seeger was a tireless advocate for traditional music."
