Donna Ulisse "Walk This Mountain Down" (producer: Keith Sewell; Hear here; MP3 Download) (Hadley Music Group, Jan. 20, 2009)

BTW: For "Walk This Mountain Down," Ulisse wanted to make "as good or better than my first bluegrass CD 'When I Look Back,' " she tells P&P. "I wanted to maintain the integrity of the music and the quality of the songwriting. I spent the 18 months between releases writing, writing, writing and giving my producer Keith Sewell a lot of song choices of new material and some old favorites. It was so much fun to see what songs he would come up with knowing that nothing he picked or didn't pick would hurt my feelings since I am the writer on everything!"

Ulisse has a team of seasoned veterans performing on the album, led by Sewell (acoustic guitar), Rob Ickes (dobro), Bryon House (upright bass), Scott Vestal (banjo), Andy Leftwich (mandolin, fiddle) and several backup singers. Was it a daunting task to get such an all-star cast of players together?

"It's the old saying, 'It's all in who you know,' and I know Keith Sewell and he knows all the great players. So daunting? No," she says. "However, I didn't know these wonderful players when they made music for me the first time around but I sure do know them now and consider them dear friends. What fun it is to pick music with your friends. If you only knew how funny these dudes are in a session! It's such a shame everyone doesn't get to hear all the outtake ... it's a hoot."
