"Have Mercy" (Hear here) |
(Elixia, June 19, 2007) | BTW: Despite being dropped by Columbia and falling victim to the demise of V2, The Mooney Suzuki had no problems staying focused for "Have Mercy," singer Sammy James Jr. tells P&P. "Rock 'n' roll is 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration," he says. "It does not take much to pick up a guitar and say 'hey, I think I'll play in a band!' Anyone can do that. But if you want to walk the walk, there's a lot more you have to give, and that's what separates the boys from the men ... that's the 99% perspiration part ... and we are a rock 'n' roll sweat machine."
What kept the group members sane through the record company upheavals? "The song 'Good Ol' Alcohol' isn't just a goof," James says. "I do not think I am the first person whose experience in the music industry has driven them to drink."
