BTW: Reynolds' eclectic, entertaining and historical anthology contains stories from people who attended Woodstock in 1969 and lived to tell the tale.
"The stories go beyond the mud, rain, lack of food, and far-out music scenario to unique experiences, some of which included drug binges and sexual escapades," Reynolds tells P&P, "but also include glimpses behind the scenes, including one by hog farmer and famous Woodstock filmmaker Lisa Law. This anthology is the only one that focuses on the kids on the ground, which really takes the reader inside the experience. Wavy Gravy read it and said 'This is the real deal .... Reading this is just like being there — except you have to supply your own mud.'
"As I edited, I experienced visceral memories that very much catapulted me to back to Yasgur's farm 40 years ago. The bios are almost as interesting to read as the stories, as you finally see where all those hippies have gone, and the answer is not to corporate jobs every one."
Was Reynolds one of the half-a-million strong?
"Yes, I did attend, almost by accident, and experienced a full circle moment at the pre-Iraq protests in Paris, when surrounded by 400,000 people (and unable to speak their language)," she says. "I was nervous until someone put a speaker on top of a car and blasted 'We Are Family' and everyone danced and sang together — as one. I also had many young Parisians express a fascination with the mere fact I had been at Woodstock in 1969, which made me contemplate what the experience had meant to me and how much it impacted my view of the world, and of my generation — which was quite a lot actually. I figured many would find our stories fascinating and compelling, and I think they will indeed."
