The Texas native had limited performing experience before "American Idol." After finishing fourth behind Syesha Mercado on "Idol" season 7, he suddenly found himself on Atlantic and in a studio.
"The whole process, from the writing to the recording, I discovered so much," he says. "I was fascinated by how the producers put it together."
