BTW: Van Cleve, a fiddler for Mountain Heart, played on "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood's multiplatinum-selling debut album. Van Cleve says getting to do a solo LP is like the end of a long journey and the beginning of another. The first part of the journey was "mentally gearing up for doing a record like this since soon after we started the band, Mountain Heart," Van Cleve tells P&P. "I'd been writing songs for a solo record for nearly the whole time I've been with Mountain Heart, but the band kept cutting them, so that would set me back another few months or so each time." His new journey is now looking forward. "I'm starting to look for other areas to explore musically," he says. "I love to push boundaries and surprise people. And I like the idea of being partly responsible for changing what they are 'allowed' to expect from acoustic music. I'm anxious to see where this will all end up one day, but I am really excited with where I'm at right now."
