BTW: Mike & The Ravens' first real album, last year's "Noisy Boys! The Saxony Sessions," came out nearly 46 years after the Vermont quintet was forced to disband for piping rock 'n' roll through the PA system of a church in Stowe.
Now Mike Brassard and Co. are back for another round of well-received garage rock - not bad for guys in their 60s.
For "No Place for Pretty," Brassard says, "the truth is, we wanted to just kick butt and rock like we used to on stage ... let me tell ya ... it sure felt like it! In our book, rock is for rock 'n roll! Turn it up!"
What's next for Mike & The Ravens?
"More recording this summer," Brassard says. "Them Bird Things, a Finnish rock band, is releasing their new CD this month, 'Fly Them Bird Things Fly,' and (fellow Raven) Steve Blodgett wrote most of the songs. I wrote two and Steve went over to Helsinki and performed on the album. I have heard the CD and it is really something else ... wonderful ... their single is getting a lot of play in Finland now - and Steve has recorded a solo album in Helsinki.
"Both the Bird Things album and Steve's were produced by Will Shade. Let me tell ya, wait till you hear it. He is one hell of a talent. I am writing more stuff and the Ravens will record two of mine this summer at the Saxony in New York. Health permitting, I will begin work on my project in the spring. I intend to record in New York and in Finland. I hope to do some of it here at Paradox studios. So there is lots brewing in the pot!"
