MAY 8, 2007

Artist: Title: Label/Due date:
Bad Plus, The "Prog" (includes covers of "Everybody Wants to Rule The World," "This Guy’s In Love With You," "Tom Sawyer" and "Life On Mars"; producer: Tony Platt; Hear here) (Heads Up, May 8, 2007)
Bellamy Brothers, The "Jesus Is Coming" (Curb, May 8, 2007)
Paris Bennett (fifth-place finisher on "Americal Idol" season 5) "Princess P" (producers: Jon Jon Traxx, Darren Lighty, Rodney Jerkins; guests: her mother, Jameica Bennett, and her grandmother, Ann Nesby, both formerly in Sounds of Blackness; first single: "Ordinary Love"; Hear here) (306 Entertainment/TVT, May 8, 2007)
Steve Bertrand (former lead singer of the Tories and Avion) "Pain Is a Megaphone" (producer: Bertrand; guests: The Wallflowers' Rami Jaffee, Vertical Horizon's Sean Hurley, Lifehouse's Sean Woolstenhulme; first single: "The Last Mile Is the Longest"; Hear here) (Icon MES, May 8, 2007)

BTW: For "Pain Is a Megaphone," Steve Bertrand did not have a manifesto, other than "World domination and tackling the garbage situation in Russia," he jokingly tells P&P, but seriously, "actually I was just trying to document where I was in my life at that particular time. Music is therapy for me. It's a bit darker than other albums I've made but sums up things."

Bertrand has developed a comfort zone producing himself. "I love locking myself away from the world for weeks at a time," he says. "Ultimately, you have no one to blame except yourself at the end of the process if everything sucks ... which is great."

Björk "Volta" (producer: Timbaland; guests: Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons, Toumani Diabate, Konono No. 1, Brian Chippendale; Hear here; Read here) (One Little Indian/Atlantic, May 8, 2007)

Chasing Victory "Fiends" (producer: Nathan Dantzler; Hear here) (Mono Vs Stereo, May 8, 2007)

BTW: "We just wanted to make a balls-to-the-wall rock record," Chasing Victory singer Adam Harrell says. "I couldn't be happier with the outcome. These days in music, it's so easy to sing the same two-note chorus, play the same chuggy riffs, throw it into Pro Tools, and slap it up your MySpace page before Beethoven has time to roll over in his grave. We approached everything in the exact opposite way as that last sentence."
