Taylor Dayne "Satisfied" (first single: "Beautiful"; Hear here; See here) (Intention Music/Adrenaline/ADA, Feb. 5, 2008)

BTW: When Dayne read recently that Sony BMG had dropped Annie Lennox, her jaw dropped.

The music industry has changed dramatically since the native New Yorker scored seven straight Top 10 hits, including the No. 1 "Love Will Lead You Back," in the late 1980s and early '90s.

"When you read about that happening to Annie Lennox, of all people," Dayne tells P&P, "there are no longer any options. There are very few labels, and this industry is no longer what we thought it was or what it used to be. But what I have right now is the right scene, the right scenario."

For "Satisfied," her first studio album in 10 years, she collaborated with such top-name producer/writers as Mike Mangini, Peter Wade, Rick Nowels and former New Radicals frontman Gregg Alexander. She co-wrote four tracks and does soulful covers of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Under the Bridge," the Rolling Stones' "Fool to Cry" and Des'ree's "Kissing You."

Why the long gap between albums? First and foremost, she is the mother of 6-year-old twins - a boy and a girl.

"Then I lived in New York for a year and did the Broadway thing (in 'Aida') and then went to Europe," she says, "so it wasn't a self-induced delay just to be a mom. I still recorded, had some dance singles and did some songs for soundtracks. But I'm in a great place right now, and I'm putting my best foot forward."

Dayne has the name recognition - and a stable of hits ("Tell It to My Heart," "Prove Your Love," "I'll Always Love You" and "Don't Rush Me") - but essentially she feels like she's a new artist starting all over again.

"So many things have changed and people have changed," she says. "Now more than ever, you have to seize the opportunities out there. You have to work smarter, as opposed to harder. I just really believe that now. As the Internet has become an important tool for marketing and promoting of product, it has to be utilized. And it's such an intelligent way of doing things. The team I'm with right now, I feel very confident in."
