Flogging Molly "Float" (Hear here; also available in MP3 Download) (SideOneDummy, March 4, 2008)

BTW: "Our last album was quite a meandering piece of songs," Flogging Molly singer Dave King tells P&P, "and for some reason I wanted this album to be very direct, with even some slow songs. And I only wanted 11 songs on the album, too. It just needed to be short, sharp, shocked and quick to the point, but having said that, each song has so much going on in it. Musically, it's all over the place, but it's still compact and very direct."

The Irish-American punk group has gotten bigger with each album. Where will "Float," their fourth studio effort, take them?

"That's in the lap of the gods, really," King says. "We just do the best albums we can and write the best songs we can. But already we've seen we're doing stuff on this album that we couldn't have done on the others.

"You really have to feel, no matter what musical style you have, that you're growing as a band. Because if you don't, your audience isn't going to grow with you. You have to take those chances, you really do. Songs like 'Us of a Lesser God,' 'Punch Drunk Grinning Soul,' 'The Story So Far,' we're spreading our wings and trying different things."
