BTW: Joel McIver tells P&P that he had several aims he wanted to achieve with "The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists."

"It's far more than just some list," he says. "It's a statement of what metal really is; it's a demonstration of the huge depth and range of styles that exists within the umbrella term 'metal'; it's the chance at last for some of the world's best - yet most underrated - musicians to get the exposure they deserve; and it's a reaction against one or two supposedly informed writers' perception of where the boundaries between rock and metal lie. It's the very first book of its kind and I think it's going to make a huge impact."

So, who is the most underrated on his Top 100?

"I think Jeff Waters of Annihilator and Trey Azagthoth of Morbid Angel are incredibly underrated guitarists," McIver says. "Jeff's prowess as a musician is recognised by other guitarists, sure, but not really by the metal-buying public, let alone the wider world outside the metal scene. Meanwhile, Trey can do things with a riff that no other human has thought of! They both appear in the Top 10."
